Portability has three parts, and platforms often provide only the first. Clinical records are usually exportable. Order history sometimes is. Card tokens frequently are not, and that is the part that determines what leaving costs.
A real portability commitment specifies a timeframe, requires no ticket or approval, and includes payment credentials rather than only clinical data.
Contract term interacts with this directly. A twelve-month minimum plus non-portable tokens is a lock-in whether or not it is described as one.
Portability is what your business is worth to an acquirer and what a bad platform decision costs you. Without token portability, switching means re-collecting payment details from every subscriber.
